Autocrossed X

One of our group members, John Lawson, is also a member of the Sierra Sports Car Club.  He ran his X1/9 in that club's autocross event over the weekend.  Good car.  Excellent driver!  Here's a sample of what it's like to run last Sunday's course:  http://youtu.be/fRM_gGKvpm4

  1. Thanks for coming down with Shellie and bringing the Go Pro camera. It added a new dimension to the experience. Autocross is the best way to get your feet wet in motorsports. The entrance fees are $30.00-$40.00, you get several laps, and you can drive your own car. Loaner helmets are typically provided if you don't have one. The goal is to get around a series of cones as fast as possible without hitting any. This usually takes 40-70 seconds per run. As long as you get faster from your first run to the last, you have demonstrated some skill and learning. Everyone is graded on a curve depending on the car, tires, and modifications. There are even Novice and Ladies classes to compete in. Speeds typically reach 50-60 MPH on a closed course, with only one or two cars on the course at a time. It's the safest way to learn to handle your car and see what it can do. You can also ride along with other drivers to get tips or maybe get hooked!
